Red Cross Murray River Marathon
The Adventures of The "PINK BATTS BULLET"
Jill Mynard has been a part of the Fletcher Family for 7 years, working in Distribution at the Dandenong Plant. She decided to compete in the Murray River Marathon which is the largest, longest and certainly most gruelling annual canoe race in the world.
There are around 6000 people involved in the Marathon, including paddlers, land crew, officials and supporters. Temperatures on the Murray often hover around 42 degrees and the battle against aching muscles, scorching sun and sweltering heat must be won in a daily test of skill, endurance, determination and teamwork.
The 404 kilometre trip from Yarrawonga to Swan Hill has developed into a high-profile fundraising event for the Australian Red Cross and attracts attention from media and sports fans across the country and internationally.

Pink Batts was very proud to sponsor Jill Mynard’s canoe called the PINK BATTS BULLET. Here is her story in her own words.

“We started at Yarrawonga on day one and that was the only part of this adventure that went according to plan. After 50km my paddling partner Kevin, started to fidget around in the boat and I knew he was in pain. We stopped at checkpoints for treatment but that only prolonged the inevitable. I thought 'old man Kevin' would have been the perfect choice to do this marathon with because of his experience. Unfortunately his body failed and I was left with a double Kayak, up the Murray without a peddler.
The Red Cross and race director ' Tom Horrshoff ' got wind of my hard luck story and came to the rescue. The remaining three days of the marathon was the most amazing experience I could have hoped for.
The ' PINK BATTS BULLET ' became legendary at camp and on the river, because each checkpoint I received a new partner. Each leg between checkpoints took a few hours so I really got to know every paddling partner quite well.

The highlights were the checkpoints, where the crowd would cheer me in and out because of my high profile partners. The camaraderie between paddlers was fantastic and the whole event was an absolutely awesome experience. Thank you to the most magnificent contingent of volunteers and thank you to PINK BATTS." - Jill Mynard
